A second year D&AD project; I had to redesign packaging for The Body Shop with their Values in mind. My concept was based around the idea of recycling glass jars. There would be three standard, hallmarked jar sizes available to purchase in shop, the customer would then need to fill the jar with the desired product and the appropriate label would be applied to the lid of the jar. As long as the customer returned the jar to the store once the product had been used up they needn't pay for another jar ever again; the must simply pick up a clean, fresh jar and pay only for the product, not the packaging.
The labels themselves were based around patterns found in materials, clothing, and even body art associated with the people from where The Body Shop source their products. I chose to focus on pattern because this way a pattern may be assigned to an individual product, therefore to make each flavour within a line recognisable the colours need only change.
